American Legion Auxiliary Unit 265
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 265 operates alongside Burton-Cowell Post 265 in Jacksonville, NC, supporting local veterans, military families, and the Onslow County community.
The Unit received its charter on June 21, 1946, with 30 original members, including Martha Lee Burton and Bessie P. Cowell—mothers of the namesakes of the Legion Post.
Over the past 80 years, members of Unit 265 have participated in numerous events, including the Jacksonville Veterans Day Parade, memorial motorcycle rides, and various charity fundraisers. The Unit also donates funds to local charities and VA homes, and provides Christmas gifts for veterans in local elder care facilities.
As part of the American Legion Family, Unit 265 continues to uphold the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security.
