From Commander Griffin
Greetings everyone and hope all are doing as well as you can. As we move forward in the new membership year we have a couple of new officers in position and I am sure they will do well. We continue to hold monthly meetings and we thank the members that have shown up as business must be taken care of. As always we need more members to get involved in order to support programs of the American Legion. Without support we fall behind in our efforts to support the community and fellow veterans as well.

We still continue to rent the building for events and conduct our Bingo on Thursday nights which helps us maintain our bank accounts.

We just completed the Onslow County Fair and I want to thank all the members and non members who volunteered to help. Overall the Fair attendance was down by around 27%. I am sure a lot of factors play into people not attending and we understand. When all said and done we will make a little profit.

Congratulations to Steven Shortt on being selected as our Veteran of the year. He will be recognized by the city of Jacksonville along with other Veterans.

Adjutant Fred Worthington
I want to take the time to thank those who come out and support the post in during our meetings and other times that we can get together.

We continue to collect membership dues for the 2023 membership years and we are just over 50%. If you have not paid please do as soon as you can so that we can try and make the 100% this membership year. We are in Division 2 which reached 88%. We are in District 6 which reached 87% and as a post we reached 92% but only retained 83% of our members from the year before. We lost 32 members for different reasons from 2021 to 2022 membership year.

We really need new younger members and some of the new members to come on board especially if they plan on staying in the area after retirement from the armed services or just simply completed their enlistment and plan on staying in the area or have lived here for some time now.

Please help in recruiting new members it is for the benefit of the post and the American Legion overall. If you need assistance with an application contact me and I will assist you and ensure that you get the credit for a new member thru National and NC Dept. Legion awards.

Male spouses of active or former service members who are current American Legion members are now eligible to join the Auxiliary. I have knowledge that the National Headquarters will be raising their portion of dues that you pay by $5.00. We will not raise our membership it will remain at $35.00 per year.

I am asking all members who have an email address to please send it to me so that you can be added to the email list for this news letter. We presently have 114 members that I have to fold and mail a news letter to. This is very costly and time consuming for me and email makes it so much more convenient. I know everyone probably does not have an email address but if you do please send me an email to fredadj265@charter.net so we can try and reduce the mails that have to go out.

Congrats to the members who maintained the recruiting tables at the Fair they were able to sign up 6 new members to the post.

We are concerned Legionnaires are not fully aware of the legislation. The expanded relationship with Bergmann and Moore ensures fees are capped at 33.3 percent, inclusive of costs. Additionally, Bergmann and Moore will work with all Legionnaires and family members to ensure they do not take a one-time payment at a detriment to other VA benefits.
